Say Hello to Dr. Lynn Simon

Dr. Lynn Simon is a Louisiana-licensed psychiatrist who has been a provider of behavioral health services in private practice, as well as in institutional settings, for nearly four decades. Now based in Baton Rouge, Dr. Simon previously practiced in the New Orleans area and continues to expand the service area of his work, which includes extensive forensic experience, to cover neighboring Louisiana Parishes.

 

Dr. Simon’s professional history as a staff and consulting psychiatrist is impressively diverse. He has served in a staff capacity at Shifa/Serenity PHP (2004-2012); Greenwell Springs Hospital, Clinical Unit Director/Adult Female Unit (2003-2005) and Staff Psychiatrist (2001-2003); Springs of Recovery Adolescent Drug Treatment Program (2002-2007); Baton Rouge General Hospital (1998-2003); Meadow Wood Hospital (1996-1999); Health Care Options/The Helping Center – Home Health PHP (1996-1999); Harmony Center, Inc. – Group and Community Homes (1989-2006); Caring, Inc. Adolescent Hospital, Chief Psychiatrist/Clinical Director (1992-1996); and Greenwell Springs Hospital, Clinical Unit Director/Adolescent Unit (1985-1992). Dr. Simon’s staff positions in New Orleans include Civil Service/Department of City Welfare (1978-1984); Dynasty Place/YMCA (1979-1986); Youth Study Center/Touro Shakespeare – Nursing Home/City Welfare Services (1978-1984); Orleans Parish School Board/Psychological Services (1978-1984); Chartres Mental Health Center (1976-1977).

 

Dr. Simon’s consultative affiliations include East Baton Rouge Youth Detention Center (2005-present; 1986-1998); Iberville Jail (1997-present); Port Allen Nursing Home (2000-2012); CPHC/PHP (1995-1997); Volunteers of America (1992-1994); Christian Resources Development Corporation (1984-1992); The Broussard Group (1982-1992) – Behaviorist for high-profile consulting group formed to enhance the management skills of top-echelon executives; Mayor’s Task Force on Nutrition – New Orleans (1984); and State Department of Health and Human Resources (1980-1984).

 

A native of Baltimore, Md., Dr. Simon is a 1972 graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. He completed a residency in Psychiatry at the Meharry-affiliated George Hubbard Hospital in Nashville from 1972-1975. He was trained in a general psychiatric setting with adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric populations, as well as in an eclectic format with psychoanalytically-oriented teaching. He had rotations in Child Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University; Neurology, Neurosurgery, Emergency Room, General Medicine, and Drug Rehabilitation at Meharry; Liaison/Consultative Psychiatry at LSU-Charity Hospital; post-graduate training in Group Dynamics, Brief Psychotherapies, Values Realization; and experiential training in Adolescent Psychiatry. His professional interests include Transcultural Psychiatry and providing psychiatric care to the disadvantaged in underserved communities.

 

Dr. Simon and his wife Gail are the parents of four children.
